Democrats want to Nationalize the Oil Companies

June 18, 2008

Move over Hugo Chavez, you have company.  Democrats, following you lead now favor nationalizing oil refineries. Proving once again that Democrats are nothing more than socialists.

Democrats called for the government to own refineries so it could better control the flow of the oil supply.

We all laughed when Maxine Waters threatened this very action not all that long ago, but Democrats now seem willing to “nationalize” the oil companies. Don’t you love the code word “nationalize”? It means socialize. That term failed in the 90’s when it came to nationalized/socialized health care and it should fail now.

Democrats are no longer hiding who they are. And I suppose that we should commend them for finally showing us their true agenda. We all know that they are socialists but they have always hidden from the moniker. But now they seem to embrace it. The question is are the American people finally able to embrace the idea that government control over more and more private industries is acceptable?

I hope not, but I fear that is the case.

First it is “national’ health care and then it’s “national” oil, and then it’s, well it’s “national” something. You get the drift. Once government is permitted a hostile takeover of one private industry, and then another, who the hell knows where it will stop. Which businesses are subject to a government takeover? Whichever one make the most money. That’s what it is all about, the government making more and more money. The government is jealous of the oil companies revenues and they want in on it.

As I said at the top of this post, Hugo Chavez move over, there is a new socialist government about to gain control of a country. And it is the Democrats.

I do hope that “want to” are the key words here. I did hear a woman on FoxNews talking about this. She was stumbling over her words a bit as if she knew the argument didn’t hold any water. Soooo…… we want the government to get the profits instead of the company that is doing the actual work? I hear a grinding noise…. Who is John Galt?

Sorry about that Project Openletter, thanks for letting me know. It should be working now.
Deb, yeah there will still be “windfall” profits, only the government will get them instead. How does this help us?

Big Oil is profiting at a record pace based NOT on supply and demand but by speculators who are inflating the price of a barrel of oil by as msch as 50%.
I don’t see nationalizing the Oil companies, but something has to be done or our total economic structure will collapse under 4 dollar a gallon gas.

I’m a proud progressive populist and can’t figure out why people like you are such sociopaths. You are so enamored of your ideology that you can’t see what oil companies are doing to you. You and your ilk are defending these parasites which are happy to bring you $4/gallon gas and laughing all the way to the bank, which is also making obscene profits. And you rail on socialists, a term you clearly don’t understand. “Socialists” are the only ones who even give a damn about you! Yes, it means government ownership of “means of production,” which is fine (for certain goods and services that the private sector cannot deliver effectively, like health care) if the government is truly democratic; that is, being DIRECTED by WE the PEOPLE. Granted, government has been captured by your beloved corporations which do not answer to you, which means we no longer have a democracy. We still have some residual freedom, but not enough to rid ourselves of corporate parasites. They’ve bought all three branches of government. Medicare and Social Security are “socialist.” The VA Hospital is “socialist.” The military is “socialist.” The interstate transportation system is “socialist.” Public schools are “socialist.” If you’re opposed to these programs, feel free not to use them, but better stay out of my way because I do and plan to use them. The Bushies have spent 8 years trying to destroy these programs, while providing plenty of socialism (subsidies) for private corporations. The U.S. oil companies have made a half trillion dollars in profit since 2001, but have reinvested practically nothing in production. Instead they have been buying their own stocks and paying their CEOs $400 million retirement packages. Why do you defend this redistribution of income from you to them? Are you stupid? Now they want more LEASES, while having done absolutely no new drilling on millions of leases they already hold and having built no refineries in decades. And what will happen when they get those leases and have the right to drill absolutely everywhere they want, regardless of whose property they contaminate? Do you really think we’ll return to the good old days of cheap oil? You are dreaming. Even if we get a bump in supply, the price is not going to go down. Oil companies are going to sell their oil on the world market to the highest bidder. That probably won’t be you. So “American” oil is not necessarily going to go to Americans. Why do you defend them? In addition, we are using our military to defend our “interests,” or more precisely, THEIR interests, and guess who pays with lives and treasure? Get a clue!!! As if all that wasn’t enough, they even get tax breaks from the government and the Republicans in Congress won’t even support getting rid of those! So what if you freeze in the dark? Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont, a progressive and Socialist is trying to get emergency funds to help people now suffering, or who will suffer from extreme heat or cold, and is being blocked by Republicans, of course. And, for all you freedom lovers out there, how free are you when you depend on gasoline for everything? You should be leading the movement toward free renewable energy from the sun and wind, and toward jobs in the green economy. Of course, that would require thinking, and you’re not well known for that. So, yes, I’m all for nationalization of the oil companies for now. When and if we ever reform capitalism, which badly needs it, we can consider more private involvement. At the moment, oil is considered a vital national resource, which can only be managed by the likes of the oil men in the White House and their corporate friends; when on the contrary, we should have the largest say in how oil and energy are managed because we pay the price. It’s such a sham and you conservative ditto heads are enabling them. I support nationalization of oil companies. Judah Ben Hur, please provide a website for further information on the march. Nationalization will immediately take the speculation out of oil and reduce the price by 1/3 to 1/2. Then we need to tax that oil in such a way as to pay for our infrastructure and renewable energy development. There is no other way to get us out of this shithole you and your ilk have gotten us into.

Carole, please read a history book, or move to china and see where the over flexing of socialist government muscle gets you. Everyone with half a brain cell knows why the price of oil has risen, and that is speculators betting against the US.

Please understand, that even without the moral implications of socialism, it still is unworkable and totally inferior to capitalism in every way.

Capitalism and a free market also promotes (with smart consumers using their heads and buying from businesses that promote workers rights) good working conditions. For example compare the US to China, North Korea or Soviet era Russia.

Even if you think socialism is right (you are entitled to your opinion), you need to know that socialism is worst for everyone, except for those running office.

I despise China and it is not socialist, whatever they call themselves. China is authoritarian mercantilist and uses slave labor. Everybody with half a brain cell knows that. And I don’t think I need any history lessons from you.

Carole Richmond and Judah Ben Hur are part of the new faces of Communism. Their primary purpose is to disguise an old face with a new one. The Democratic National Committee Party Platform and the Democratic Socialists of America’s Resolution on the 2008 Presidential Election contain the same goals. The DNC of course denies any ties with the DSA or any other Socialists Movement. These Documents are available for anyone who wishes to view them on-line, although you have to search through a lot of junk to find “what is” the DNC platform. Appears like they do not want the American People to see their agenda as a whole. The “New” Socialists view on Nationalization is: “Nationalization, also spelled nationalisation, is the act of taking an industry or assets into the public ownership of a national government. Nationalization usually refers to private assets, but may also mean assets owned by lower levels of government, such as municipalities. The opposite of nationalization is usually privatization or de-nationalisation, but may also be municipalization. A renationalization occurs when state-owned assets are privatized and later nationalized again, often when a different political party or faction is in power. A renationalization process may also be called reverse privatization.” What most fail to explain is “Nationalization may occur with or without compensation to the former owners”, which in America’s case would be the American People who invest their money into these Publicly Traded Companies. Congress would become the C.E.O. and the Board of Directors for the company. They could NOT be fired by the people in this case, for bad performance of the company. This is the face of Nationalism (Socialism).
