Democrats Add National Fingerprint Registry to Mortgage Bailout Bill
The Patriot Act is encroaching on the rights and privacy of the American people. Bush is trampling the constitution. Bush is spying on the American people. Bush is listening to everybody’s private conversations. Bush is a terrorist who engineered the 9/11 attacks so he could reign in the freedoms of the American people. Bush lied us into war. Bush lied, people died.
BLAH,BLAH,BLAH,BLAH,BLAH, and on and on the list goes. We have heard all of the above from the far left over the last eight years. We have even heard some of the above by Democrats in congress over the last eight years.
So what have the Democrats done to right this supposed wrong, nothing! As a matter of fact they approved extending the Patriot Act when they had the chance to kill it. Why? Because in spite of all the rhetoric they thought is was the right thing to do. They talk about ending the war, yet continue to vote to fund the war. Why? Because in spite of what they say, it is the right thing to do. They talk a good game to appease the far left moonbats, but they vote differently when the chips are on the table.
With all of the talk about how President Bush has trampled over the constitution with the foreign surveillance program and the Patriot Act by the left you can imagine my surprise when I read this story.
Chris Dodd engineered a compromise with former Democrat turned Republican Richard Shelby that would create a federal registry of fingerprints that is totally unrelated to national security. In fact it was added to the housing bill and targets law abiding home mortgage lenders.

The legislation would require thousands of individuals working even tangentially in the mortgage and real estate industries — and not suspected of anything — to send their prints to the feds. The database and fingerprint mandates were tucked into housing and foreclosure assistance bills that on Tuesday passed the Senate Banking Committee by a vote of 19-2.
The measure the committee passed states that “an individual may not engage in the business of a loan originator without first … obtaining a unique identifier.” To obtain this “identifier,” an individual is required to “furnish” to the newly created Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System and Registry “information concerning the applicant’s identity, including fingerprints for submission” to the FBI and other government agencies.
I find this astounding coming from the party that has accused President Bush of restricting the rights and freedoms of the American people. A national fingerprint registry for law abiding citizens who just happen to be in the mortgage industry? Will it stop there? Or will the Democrats expand their attack on the right to privacy to other citizens? I think we all know it will not stop here.
The same party that opposes voter identification laws now wants to create a national fingerprint registry. According to the Democrats, you do not have to prove you are who you say you are when you vote because it is infringing on the rights of the people. Evidently requiring a person to show a photo ID when they vote is racist and hurts the poor, don’t ask me how, but that’s what they claim. However, they don’t have a problem with a person who is in the mortgage industry from having to provide fingerprints so that they can be tracked. Does anybody else see the hypocrisy here?
Infringement is in the eye of the beholder, evidently. We are to believe that Democrats are looking out for us while Republicans are merely looking at us.

At the end of the day, there is little difference between democrats and republicans when it comes to the little people. They will say what they think the voters want to hear to get elected. When the votes are cast, they only care for their own self-serving agenda.
Re: voter identification
In Indiana, the voter identification laws is not the problem, IMHO. It’s what the state did after the law was passed that I have issues with. Shortly after the law was passed, the state shut down several BMV offices notably ones in poor neighborhoods (especially Gary) and made it more difficult to get the identification (I think you need something like 4 forms of identification now).

Democrats believe in law and order. This is a measure designed to make sure that people who handle your money and property can be regulated, supervised and located. Given the amount of crooks among them, you want to watch them closely.

This is the stupidest post I’ve ever read, and reveals your lack of understanding of how REAL people’s jobs work. There are already regulations that state that people involved in financial industries be “bonded”, which requires that fingerprints be taken from them when the start the job.
The aim is to reduce the likelihood and incentive for these people to commit fraud on their clients, given the ease with which they could do so. Most brokers support this regulation — it’s a small cost to us for working in an industry where we make very nice salaries. And it prevents our profession getting stained by some of the less civic-minded that might be tempted into our profession (or at least guarantees that the Nick Leesons’ of this world cannot do a runner without their fingerprints being sent to ever major global police agency).
To expand this to the Mortgage industry makes a ton of sense since they are also in a position to easily commit fraud on their clients. To nationalize a registry simply ensures stricter controls on access to data that should remain private.

That’s fine if the mortgage brokers are willing to give their prints. I think the point is, that if the Dems have no problem with this, then they should not have any problem with aspects of the Patriot Act. It’s all about keeping Americans safe. And please, although you are clever “Mr Pink Butt” do not try to make mortgage lending into a lofty, noble profession. Just trying to make money like everyone else. Helping people, Ya, OK whatever you say. You sir, are a narcissist.

Not everyone who doesn’t want a fingerprint registry or birth certificate
checks is a criminal. There are thousands of transexuals ( and by this,
I mean functioning, perfectly passing, post surgical people) who would be outed and deeply hurt and might lose their careers if they were forced
to go though such checks.
Some states will NEVER change the birth certificate.
My girlfriend ( who is such a person, was born intersexual, wrongly
assigned to the male gender–even with XX chromosomes!–is such a person and she lives in fear of REAL ID etc.

Deb, that is what my point was. Democrats don’t seem to have a problem with this because it was introduced by Chris Dodd, but imagine if President Bush had recommended doing this? LOOK OUT!

The mortgage industry is the free market. The mortgage industry money has plenty of cash that comes from other countries.(Citi,ABN Amro,etc,)
The mortgage industry is already regulated. Having the fingerprints of a mortgage broker isn’t going to help.
If one is a victim of fraud there are a number of entities that will assist you.
The current mortgage crisis is more about greed and stupidity (on the part of applicants) than it is fraud. Wake Up People !

Our nation faces many problems. Most, perhaps, are mere annoyances, but some of them pose a serious threat to the very survival of our Free Republic. In my view the most serious threat we face is the popular notion, possibly perpetuated by your article, that there is a meaningful difference between the Republican and Democrat Parties. There IS none!
People are getting themselves all worked up about how great one Globalist candidate is, compared to the others. We need to face this now: each of them… Obama, Clinton, and McCain, is pure evil. Each wants the honor of presiding over the continued destruction of our Republic, just as Bush, Gore, Kerry and others coveted it in past elections. These swine don’t give a rat’s ass about this Country or the Constitution they swore to uphold, protect and defend against all enemies, foreign and domestic. Instead, each has deliberately become an enemy of our Constitution and, as such, an enemy of our Republic. Every one of these cretins is a damned TRAITOR and should be tried for treason and when convicted, shot.
Every four years We, The Sheeple are treated to another dog-and-pony show designed to keep us believing we are still governing ourselves as our Founders intended. People, if you still believe that you simply have not been paying attention. The three shitheads vying for your vote for President have been hand-picked by the Powers That Be, so at this point it won’t matter which of them is elected. On the outside chance our votes are actually counted, they have virtually assured our choice will be one of their chosen Globalists.
So please Mr. Pink Eyes, don’t perpetuate this dangerous fiction. Please realize our Constitution is the heart of our Republic; without it we are doomed. Every politician, judge, or government bureaucrat must be evaluated on the basis of his/her steadfast adherence to the Constitution and Bill of Rights. Any who fall short, however slightly, must be removed from office, and outright traitors should be punished to the fullest extent of the law. Perhaps their heads could be mounted to replace their official portraits, as a warning to others. (This is just a thought; I’m not sure it is legal so a more subtle approach might be in order.) Whatever it takes, we must break them of the habit, and we don’t have much time, folks.
