Pennsylvania Governor says Whites Aren’t Ready to Vote for Obama

February 12, 2008

 Cross posted at Political Gravitas!

This is what Ed Rendell, governor of Pennsylvania, had to say about his constituents:

“You’ve got conservative whites here, and I think there are some whites who are probably not ready to vote for an African-American candidate,” Rendell told the editorial board of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette in remarks that appeared in Tuesday’s paper.

Before I even get to my rant I just wanted to point out that Ed Rendell is considered one of Hillary Clinton’s biggest supporters. This begs me to ask the question, is he hoping that his constituents are too racist to vote for Obama? After all, he doesn’t care how she wins, as long as she wins, right? Once again the left has to play the race card to try to help Hillary get the nomination. I am thoroughly enjoying the way race has been pitted against gender in this election by the party that is supposed to be color and gender blind. You can’t read an article by the mainstream media about Obama which doesn’t remind everyone that he is trying to become the first black president. As if we needed reminding. And I thought conservatives were supposed to be the racists. WRONG!

 Now on to my rant.

The first part of Ed Rendell’s statement is what draws my attention. He says, “you’ve got conservative whites here”. Why does this draw my attention? Because he follows up the “conservative whites” part of that statement with his proclamation that these whites may not be able to vote for a black man, meaning Obama. I say meaning Obama for a reason, and I will explain this next.

The key words in his description of his constituents are “conservative” and “whites”. He is right to assume that conservative whites won’t vote for Obama, but he implies it is because conservative whites are racists. Conservative whites are, I know this is hard to believe, CONSERVATIVES. Obama is NOT A CONSERVATIVE, that is why conservative whites won’t vote for him. It has nothing to do with the “whites” part of his statement and has everything to do with the “conservative” part of the statement. Conservative whites would have no problem voting for a conservative black man if they felt he was the best candidate.

Why is it that white, conservative men are the only group of people in America about whom it is still okay to stereotype? I am getting so sick and tired of this I can’t even express my outrage.

Throughout this election process it has been the liberal Democrats who have constantly brought race into the picture. This is yet another example of liberal Democrats bringing up race and reminding everyone that Obama can’t be elected because he is black. Who are the racists here? I think Obama can win, in fact I think he has a better chance of winning a general election than Hillary. That scares me not because he is a black man, that scares me because he is even more liberal than Hillary.

That is the real difference between conservatives and liberals. Conservatives look at the issues and vote with their heads, they vote for the candidate that best holds their ideals. Liberals look at the candidates and vote with their emotions, they vote for which candidate makes them feel better.

Here we have a Clinton supporter again injecting race into the race by saying conservatives won’t vote for Obama, conveniently forgetting that conservatives won’t be voting in the Democrat primaries. Why? Because he is trying to play the race card for the general election, he wants to persuade people to vote for Hillary because she is white, and as a white person stands a better chance of being elected. What is more racist than that?

I am also getting so sick of the Hillary camp continuously bring up the race card – and the media falling whim to report over it again and again. This is even more annoying considering that this lie has already been proven false by the vast number of white people casting their vote for Obama. I’m not delusional in think that racism doesn’t exist anymore – but come OFF it already!

And what I really liked about your blog is that you said how angry you were about the stereo-typing of what people that is going on by white people themselves. I didn’t even think that I should not only be annoyed – but outraged.

    Go Obama! 🙂

Being called a “white conservative” hurts my feelings. Why isn’t there an Angry white guy history month? No fair. Not ready. hmphhh. The way Obama is doing in the polls, & the delegate count, I think people are chomping at the bit! And seeing as how he is apparently such a fan of the great humanitarian Che Guevera, Why not?

We are still on the Muslim rumor? It is quite sad how people hear rumors and run with it without bothering to investigate for themselves. I’m guessing you guys chose not to visit his website and find out facts.

I have visited both candidates’ websites and if Americans really knew Hillary Clinton’s policy concerning healthcare, they would vote against her no matter what color the ther candidates are.

For those of you to lazy to research, she plans to force people to get her healthcare plan if you don’t have any ,and if you don’t , your wages will be garnished. How American is that!

It sounds like Ed has some issues with people in general. I think the Obama candidacy proves that whites don’t care what color there politician is, as long as the money he promises to steal then hand out to his constituents is GREEN

Personally I blame liberal white guilt for Obama’s success. There is really no reason for anybody to legitimately vote for or support Obama, yet there he is, surging past Hillary. Liberals are generally plagued with “white guilt” which drives them to vote for the black man so they can somehow disillusion themselves into feeling absolved.

Voter in Virginia, who do you mean by “you guys”? That was one commenter’s position. None of the other comments reflect his opinion, and my post certainly did not. I agree with you on Hillary, I wrote a post about her and her plan to garnish wages.

David, I liked what you wrote, right up until those last two words. 🙂

What always amazes me is the inaccurate stereotype that conservatives/Republicans are racist and yet the only racists I know are liberals. Unbelievable!!

    Dear Ed,

You are a racist pig. I am a white male, 50 years old and a Republican.

I am voting for Obama since he seems to be the most honest person in the “race.”

On the other side of the coin, people like you Ed, should dispel the notion of white supremacy forever.

    Re-Elect NOBODY!

I am so glad someone has finally come to realize that the democratic party has done nothing but destroy blacks in America. I am a black female who left America and currently resides in Italy. It feels wonderful to be identified as an American as opposed to some hyphenated someone. The democratic party with it’s affirmative action, and economic slavery system of welfare is the breeding ground for destruction of self sufficiency. It is amazing that someone like geraldine ferraro who probably benefitted more from affirmative action than I ever could have could make a statement as she did. Wolves in wool, that is what democrats are.

I get so tired of the hyphenated-Americans also, we are all Americans. We should all be Americans first and foremost.

Everything hurts the feeling of the blacks, even a little toy! Get over it and stop blaming the white man for your problems!
